AWS Workshop equips SoC students with real-world cloud computing skills

On 2 June 2025, the AWS Cloud Skills Build Workshop was held in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for students from the School of Computing. The workshop introduced participants to foundational cloud computing concepts and real-world applications of AWS technologies.

Students took part in two sessions: Introduction to AWS Academy Cloud Foundations (AWS Academy) and the AWS Cloud Trivia Challenge (AWS Skills Builder). The sessions provided insights into service models such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS), and how they shape today鈥檚 cloud services.

Students were also encouraged to sign up for their own AWS accounts to explore the platform further and deepen their learning beyond the workshop.

Reflection from Lam Zi Wei, Year 2 student from the Diploma in Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics (DCDF) course:

鈥淭he AWS Cloud Skills Build workshop was both informative and engaging. Through the event, I gained a clearer understanding of different cloud models such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, and how they shape the way cloud services are delivered today. It was interesting to learn how AWS offers smart solutions for managing IT resources effectively. The quizzes also kept the session lively while reinforcing key concepts like security, networking, and storage. Overall, it was a valuable introduction to cloud computing and highlighted the relevance of these skills in today鈥檚 tech landscape.
