My journey in cybersecurity at 91proÊÓƵ was thrilling – from mastering encryption in Applied Cryptography to simulating real-world attacks in Ethical Hacking. These hands-on modules gave me the perfect launchpad into the industry, proven when I successfully executed penetration tests and security hardening during my Year 3 internship.
Beyond school, DISM offered diverse opportunities, exposing me to real-world cybersecurity demands and fostering crucial connections. My passion for cybersecurity ignited through Cyber Youth Singapore, leading impactful initiatives like the Surf Safe Campaign. Singtel internship revealed cybersecurity's broader scope beyond coding, guiding digital transformation while educating others.
The School of Computing's foundational curricula provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the technical aspects of cybersecurity, including topics such as network security, cryptography, and ethical hacking. With hands-on projects and practical coursework, I gained practical skills in vulnerability assessment, incident response, and security management. There was also emphasis on the development of non-technical skillsets such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, which are crucial in the cybersecurity industry.
DISM exposed me to a wide variety of IT and cybersecurity concepts which allowed me to understand what I want to pursue in the future. Furthermore, I am thankful to have met nurturing lecturers who were passionate about my learning and a group of supportive friends who shared the same interests as me.
