Course Objective

The Digital Connectivity Blueprint (DCB) and Singapore鈥檚 national ICT strategies highlight software development and computational thinking as essential skills for the future workforce. Beyond traditional IT careers, professionals across Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and even non-technical fields are increasingly expected to apply coding and digital problem-solving to thrive in a technology-driven economy.

As digital technologies become embedded in every sector, the workforce must progress beyond basic digital literacy to design and integrate applications that improve productivity, efficiency, and innovation. The ability to connect user-facing applications with backend logic and data鈥攕upported by modern AI-assisted development tools鈥攈as become a key competency in the 21st century.

This course provides hands-on training in the fundamentals of web application development, enhanced by the use of AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate learning, improve productivity, and support problem-solving. Participants will gain proficiency in:
  • JavaScript 鈥 for building dynamic, interactive web pages.
  • Python 鈥 for backend programming and handling server-side logic.
  • HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap 鈥 to create responsive, accessible, and user-friendly web interfaces.
  • Basic UI/UX principles and image editing for enhancing user experience.
  • AI-powered development tools 鈥 to assist in code generation, debugging.
  • Backend integration 鈥 including designing and consuming APIs, managing basic data flow between client and server, and integrating backend processes into frontend applications.

Course Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Design and optimize websites for usability and performance.
  • Apply client-side programming to create interactive features.
  • Understand and implement core programming fundamentals.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to support coding, debugging, and learning.
  • Develop web applications with web services and database support from the back-end
  • Integrate frontend applications with backend logic to develop functional web solutions that handle user input and data interactions.

Note: Participants are required to bring their own laptops for coding exercises, project work, and access to e-learning materials.
