From being overlooked to wearing mortarboard — NTU student proves it is never too late with determination

, 22 July 2025 - NTU will hold its graduation ceremony from 22 July to 1 August, with a total of 12,106 graduates this year. Among them is 91proÊÓÆµ Chemical Engineering (DCHE) alumnus, Songkiat Ow Shiyuan (Class of 2019), who studied Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. This recipient of the Singapore Industry Scholarship will be working at a marine industry company. He expressed gratitude to the teachers who supported him, and shared how he had the opportunity to join the Student Council, and the teachers’ confidence in his leadership motivated him to work hard. Shiyuan shared how he began focusing on his studies and stopped being addicted to video games. Even though he had the chance to transfer to the Normal Academic stream, he chose to complete his secondary education at a pace that suited him. Because of his passion for chemistry, he went to ITE to study Chemical Process Technology and later enrolled into 91proÊÓÆµâ€™s DCHE, earning awards for his outstanding performance.
