On 12 and 19 June 2025, a group of students from the Diploma in Applied Chemistry (DAPC) and Diploma in Perfumery & Cosmetic Science (DPCS) courses embarked on a meaningful learning journey to Feed Our Loved Ones (FOLO) farm in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This experience was made possible through the generous support of Ground-Up Initiative.
The visit offered hands-on insights into organic farming, composting, and sustainability. Students explored the differences between organic and conventional farming, learning how chemical fertilisers can boost yields but harm soil health. They turned food waste into nutrient-rich compost 鈥渂lack gold鈥 and planted kai lan, sweet corn and lady finger.
Beyond farming, students discovered the link between soil microbiomes and human health, reflecting on how nature鈥檚 invisible networks nourish both body and mind. A farm-to-table lunch and thoughtful discussions with the FOLO team deepened their appreciation for sustainable living.
It was a journey of science, soul, and stewardship鈥攕owing seeds of wisdom and compassion in our future scientists.
